Egg and sperm cryopreservation

We understand that having children doesn't follow a scheduled moment, but many people set it as a priority goal or at least prefer to keep the option open.

Currently, the cryopreservation of eggs and sperm is a routine technique in an assisted reproduction unit, and more and more people are choosing to maintain and extend their reproductive options.

The age at which we currently reach stability to consider our plans to start a family is quite advanced and is often not suitable in biological terms.

Our longer life expectancy, certain habits, and some diseases—due to their own characteristics or the treatment (cancer, autoimmune diseases)—can affect the reproductive system.

Gamete cryopreservation is an option for those who, due to their work, socioeconomic, or personal situation, prefer to postpone their decision to have children.

Egg cryopreservation

It is the technique that provides the greatest guarantees for preserving a woman's fertility.

It consists of the same steps as an In Vitro Fertilization treatment, with the difference that the eggs will not be inseminated; they will be cryopreserved through vitrification.

The main advantage of this procedure is that the eggs can be cryopreserved at an appropriate age and in better conditions than what might occur over time or due to the negative effects of a treatment, allowing them to be stored in liquid nitrogen for as long as desired.

The vitrification procedure is very similar to that of embryos, with slight modifications that allow for optimizing the survival of the oocytes during the process.

The survival rate of oocytes after treatment is higher in women under 35, and clinical use has shown the same success rates as fresh oocytes.

  • Women with gestational desire who do not want to be affected by age.
  • Women who are going to undergo chemotherapy to combat cancer or any type of treatment that may have a negative effect on the ovaries (surgery).
  • Women with poor ovarian response to stimulation who require undergoing a Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis procedure and thus need to have a sufficient number of embryos.

Sperm cryopreservation

It is a simple technique that allows men to have the security to fulfill their reproductive desire.

  • Men with gestational desire who do not want to see their reproductive potential diminished by age.
  • Men who are going to undergo chemotherapy to combat cancer or any type of treatment that may have a negative effect on the testicles (surgery).
  • Men diagnosed with azoospermia who have undergone a testicular biopsy procedure and have viable sperm.
